Ingredients

  • Ground beef – 500 grams
  • Breadcrumbs – ½ cup
  • Egg – 1 large
  • Milk – ¼ cup
  • Onion – 1 medium finely chopped
  • Garlic – 2 cloves minced
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper – ½ teaspoon
  • Worcestershire sauce – 1 tablespoon
  • Butter – 2 tablespoons
  • Flour – 2 tablespoons
  • Beef broth – 2 cups
  • Ketchup – 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard – 1 teaspoon

Instructions

Prepare the Meat Mixture

  • Take a large bowl. Add ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, and milk. Mix gently with your hands. Do not overmix. This keeps the patties soft and juicy.

Add Flavor Ingredients

  • Now add chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix again until everything combines well. The mixture should feel soft but hold shape easily.

Shape the Patties

  • Divide the mixture into equal parts. Shape each part into oval patties. Keep them slightly thick. This helps them stay juicy while cooking.

Cook the Patties

  • Heat a skillet on medium heat. Add a little oil or butter. Place patties in the pan. Cook each side for 4–5 minutes until nicely browned.

Remove and Rest

  • Take the patties out and place them on a plate. Let them rest for a few minutes. This keeps the juices inside the meat.

Make the Gravy Base

  • In the same pan, add butter. Let it melt. Add flour and stir well. Cook for one minute until it turns light brown.

Add Liquid Ingredients

  • Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring. This prevents lumps. Add ketchup and mustard. Mix until smooth and thick.

Simmer the Gravy

  • Let the gravy cook on low heat. Stir often. It will become rich and smooth. The smell will be amazing.

Add Patties Back

  • Place the cooked patties back into the gravy. Spoon gravy over them. Let them simmer for 10 minutes.

Serve Hot

  • Turn off the heat. Serve the Salisbury steak warm with your favorite side dish. Enjoy every bite.

Notes

  • Use fresh ground beef for best flavor
  • Do not overmix the meat mixture
  • Add mushrooms for extra taste
  • Use chicken broth if beef broth is not available
  • Add a splash of cream for richer gravy
  • Cook on medium heat to avoid burning
