Ingredients

  • 1 stick 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt optional, for flavor balance
  • 1 can 29 ounces sliced peaches in heavy syrup
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice to brighten the fruit
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for a warm spice
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

Preheat Your Oven

  • Start by setting your oven to 350°F. While it heats up, place your butter in the baking dish. Put the dish in the oven for a few minutes. Let the butter melt completely until it is golden.

Prepare the Peach Filling

  • Open the can of peaches. Do not drain the syrup yet! Pour the peaches and syrup into a bowl. Stir in the lemon juice and cinnamon. This makes the ingredients for Paula Deen Peach Cobbler taste extra fresh.

Mix the Batter

  • In a large bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, and baking powder together. Slowly pour in the milk. Stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Do not over-mix, or the crust might become tough.

Combine with Melted Butter

  • Take the hot baking dish out of the oven carefully. Pour the batter directly over the melted butter. Do not stir it! Let the batter sit right on top of that liquid gold.

Add the Peaches

  • Gently spoon the peaches over the batter. Pour the syrup from the bowl over the fruit as well. Again, do not stir the mixture. The batter will rise up through the fruit as it bakes.

Bake Until Golden

  • Place the dish back into the center of the oven. Bake for about 40 to 45 minutes. The top should be a beautiful golden brown color. The edges will look bubbly and delicious.

Cool and Serve

  • Remove the cobbler from the oven. Let it sit for at least 10 minutes before serving. This allows the juices to thicken up. Serve it warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Fresh is Best: If it is summer, use four cups of fresh sliced peaches. You will need to simmer them with a bit of sugar and water first.
  • The Crust Secret: Do not stir the layers! This is the most important rule for the perfect texture.
  • Add Some Crunch: Sprinkle a little brown sugar on top before baking. This creates a sweet, crunchy topping.
  • Berry Mix: You can swap half the peaches for blueberries or blackberries. It adds a lovely tartness to the dish.
  • Spiced Up: Add a pinch of nutmeg or ginger to the batter for a deeper flavor.
