Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 can 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 can 14.5 oz diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

Cook the Ground Beef

  • Heat a large pot over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until brown. Break it into small pieces. This helps it cook evenly. Drain extra fat for a lighter dish. Add chopped onion and cook until soft.

Add Garlic and Spices

  • Add minced garlic to the pot. Cook for one minute until fragrant. Then add Italian seasoning and paprika. Stir well to coat the meat. This step builds the base flavor of your goulash.

Mix in Tomato Ingredients

  • Pour in tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Add tomato paste for a richer taste. Stir everything together slowly. Let it simmer for a few minutes so flavors blend well.

Add Broth and Pasta

  • Pour in beef broth and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Add elbow macaroni directly into the pot. Stir well so pasta does not stick together.

Cook Until Pasta is Tender

  • Reduce heat to low and cover the pot. Let it cook for about 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to avoid sticking. Pasta should become soft and absorb the sauce.

Add Cheese and Finish

  • Turn off heat and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Stir gently until melted. Taste and adjust salt and pepper if needed. Your goulash is now ready to serve.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey instead of beef for a lighter version
  • Add bell peppers for extra color and crunch
  • Use whole wheat pasta for a healthier option
  • Add chili flakes for a spicy twist
  • Try mozzarella cheese instead of cheddar for a creamy texture
  • Let it sit for 5 minutes before serving for better flavor
