Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • cups chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped nuts optional

Instructions

Prepare the Dry Ingredients

  • Take a bowl and add flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix them well using a spoon. This step helps the cookies bake evenly. Set this bowl aside while you prepare the wet ingredients.

Cream Butter and Sugar

  • In another bowl, add softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar. Beat them until smooth and creamy. This step is important for soft cookies. Mix for about 2–3 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla

  • Now add eggs one by one into the mixture. Mix well after each egg. Then pour in vanilla extract. Keep mixing until everything looks smooth and fluffy.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixture

  • Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Mix gently. Do not overmix. Stop when everything is combined into a soft dough.

Add Chocolate Chips

  • Fold in chocolate chips and nuts if you like. Use a spatula to mix evenly. The dough should look rich and chunky now.

Chill the Dough

  • Place the dough in the fridge for 20–30 minutes. This step helps cookies stay thick and chewy. It also improves flavor.

Shape the Cookies

  • Take out the dough and scoop small balls. Place them on a lined baking tray. Keep space between each cookie as they spread while baking.

Bake the Cookies

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the cookies for 10–12 minutes. The edges should look golden, but centers should stay soft.

Cool Before Serving

  • Remove cookies from the oven. Let them rest on the tray for 5 minutes. Then move them to a cooling rack. Enjoy warm or store for later.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter for better mixing
  • Do not overbake for soft cookies
  • Add white chocolate chips for variation
  • Sprinkle sea salt on top for extra flavor
  • Chill dough longer for thicker cookies
