Ingredients

  • 8 pork sausages
  • 4 large potatoes peeled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 large onions sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

Prepare the Potatoes

  • Peel and chop the potatoes into even pieces. This helps them cook evenly. Place them in a pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until soft.

Cook the Sausages

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add sausages and cook slowly. Turn them often so they brown evenly. Cook until fully done and juicy inside.

Slice the Onions

  • While sausages cook, peel and slice onions thinly. Thin slices cook faster and become soft. Set them aside for the gravy.
  • Make the Mashed Potatoes
  • Drain the cooked potatoes well. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to your taste.

Start the Onion Gravy

  • In the same skillet, add olive oil. Add sliced onions and cook slowly. Stir often until they turn soft and golden brown.

Add Flour for Thickness

  • Sprinkle flour over the onions. Stir well to combine. This helps thicken the gravy later. Cook for one minute to remove raw taste.

Pour in the Broth

  • Slowly add beef broth while stirring. This prevents lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor. Let it simmer until thick and rich.

Combine and Serve

  • Place mashed potatoes on a plate. Add sausages on top. Pour warm onion gravy over everything. Serve hot and enjoy your meal.

Notes

  • Use high-quality sausages for better flavor
  • Add garlic to mashed potatoes for extra taste
  • Use chicken broth instead of beef if preferred
  • Add a splash of cream for richer mash
  • Try caramelizing onions slowly for deeper flavor
  • Use sweet potatoes for a healthy twist
