Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp mustard yellow or Dijon
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp honey optional for extra sweetness

Instructions

Heat the Oil

  • Place a saucepan on medium heat. Add olive oil and let it warm up. Do not let it smoke. This step builds the base flavor for your sauce.

Cook the Onion

  • Add chopped onion to the pan. Cook for 3–4 minutes until soft and light golden. Stir often so it does not burn or stick.

Add Garlic

  • Now add chopped garlic. Cook for one minute only. Garlic burns fast, so keep stirring gently to avoid bitterness.

Add Ketchup

  • Pour in the ketchup. Stir well with the onion and garlic. This forms the base of your Gordon Ramsay Barbecue Sauce Recipe.

Add Sugar and Honey

  • Add brown sugar and honey. Mix well until sugar dissolves fully. This gives the sauce a rich and sweet taste.

Pour Vinegar

  • Add apple cider vinegar slowly. Stir as you pour. This adds a tangy flavor and balances the sweetness perfectly.

Add Worcestershire Sauce

  • Now add Worcestershire sauce. It gives depth and a slightly smoky taste. Mix everything well to combine flavors evenly.

Add Mustard

  • Add mustard to the mixture. It gives a sharp and bold flavor. Stir until fully mixed.

Add Spices

  • Add smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well so spices blend nicely into the sauce.

Simmer the Sauce

  • Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for 15–20 minutes. Stir occasionally. The sauce will thicken and develop deep flavor.

Blend (Optional)

  • If you want a smooth sauce, blend it carefully. If you like texture, skip this step. Both ways taste amazing.

Cool and Store

  • Turn off the heat and let it cool. Pour into a clean jar. Your homemade BBQ sauce is ready to use.

Notes

  • Use smoked paprika for a stronger smoky taste.
  • Add chili flakes if you like spicy sauce.
  • Use fresh garlic for better flavor.
  • Blend for smooth texture or keep chunky for rustic style.
  • Add a splash of lemon juice for extra tang.
  • Store in glass jars for better freshness.
