Ingredients

For the Steak:

  • 4 cube steaks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Oil for frying

For the Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Steak

  • Place cube steaks on a board. Gently pound them if needed. This makes them tender. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Let them rest for a few minutes before coating.

Set Up Coating Station

  • Take two bowls. In one bowl, mix flour and spices. In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk. This setup helps create a crispy coating easily.

Coat the Steaks

  • Dip each steak in flour first. Then dip in egg mixture. Coat again in flour. Press gently so coating sticks well. This step gives a crunchy texture.

Heat the Oil

  • Pour oil into a frying pan. Heat on medium flame. The oil should be hot but not smoking. Test with a small flour pinch. It should sizzle.

Fry the Steaks

  • Place steaks in hot oil carefully. Fry each side for 3–4 minutes. Cook until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan. Work in batches if needed.

Drain Excess Oil

  • Remove steaks from the pan. Place them on paper towels. This removes extra oil and keeps them crispy. Let them rest while you prepare gravy.

Make the Gravy

  • In the same pan, melt butter. Add flour and whisk well. Cook for one minute. Slowly add milk while stirring. Cook until thick and creamy.

Season the Gravy

  • Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir well. The gravy should be smooth and rich. Adjust thickness by adding more milk if needed.

Serve Hot

  • Place steak on a plate. Pour warm gravy on top. Serve immediately for best taste. Enjoy every bite while it is fresh and crispy.

Notes

  • Use buttermilk instead of milk for extra flavor.
  • Add cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
  • Always double-coat for extra crunch.
  • Let coated steak rest before frying.
  • Use cast iron pan for best results.
  • Try chicken instead of beef for variation.
